Quarter 2 Assignments
October 13: Beginning of Matter Unit - Pretest and Defining Matter
- Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.
- Anything that is not matter is energy
- Matter gets its mass and volume from atoms, the building blocks of matter.
October 14: Mass & Volume
- Complete all 9 solid volume questions on page 1. Show your work inserting the values into the formula Length x Width x Height. Circle your answer and include the units. (Do not do page 2)
- Do 15 of the first 25 liquid volume questions on page 1. Aside from the volume reading, include the increment value for each line. (Do not do page 2)

October 15 & 16: Measuring Mass & Volume Mini-Lab
- Students measured the mass and volume of a cube, a given amount of water and a rock
- Students used the displacement method to determine volume of an irregular shaped solid (rock).
- Click here for additional mass and volume practice.

October 17: Density
- Students used their mass and volume measurements for the cube, water and the rock to calculate density for each.
- Compared all density calculations for water to recognize that the density of water is always 1 g/cm3
- Click here for density practice.
October 20: Density is a unique, identifiable property
- Used density calculations and physical properties of the cubes to identify their composition.
- Density of solids in water demo. (>1 g/cm3 = solid sinks, <1 g/cm3 = solid floats)
- Handed out the NBPTS Release Forms - Due 10/21

October 21: Liquid Density Demo
- Demonstration showing the layering of liquids of different densities.
|
In this video, Steve Spangler creates a liquid density column similar to the one we made today in class.
